Wood for Conservators

For the first time, we are offering a dedicated course for museum professionals and objects conservators across Australia to attend a 1 week dedicated workshop and seminar on wood. This is a private professional training event for conservation professionals specifically. There are only 10 places in this course to be made by application selection.

Over the course of the week we will explore the biology and material properties of wood. We will get hands on working wood to better understand the way people from all around the world have worked this material to build objects, homes, and artworks. We’ll study tool marks left on their surfaces, coatings and decorative techniques use on them, and the different properties of different woods selected for. We will examine the agents of deterioration specific to wood and discuss the importance and reality of environmental controls when storing and handling wooden objects.
