Introduction to Woodworking

In this one-day course, you will make a small version of the traditional Scottish stool (sometimes referred to as a Creepie or a Cracket) using simple hand tools. You'll learn the basics of understanding and working with wood while being guided through techniques and tools you can use at home for your own projects.

Even if you've never picked up a woodworking tool in your life before, don't worry. Over the course of the day, you will become more confident with:

  • Understanding wood

  • Marking and measuring

  • Sawing wood by hand

  • Shaping wood with hand tools

  • Drilling and nailing

  • Assembling wooden projects

  • Understanding glues and adhesives

  • Sanding and the basics of wood finishing
