French Polishing

There is almost nothing like a beautiful French polished surface, and watching it come to life is one of my greatest joys. While it can be a challenging finish to do, it's not as hard as you might think to get started producing beautiful wooden surfaces by hand. What is French polishing? It's a process of applying a shellac coating using a soft cotton rubber to produce a clear, deep, vibrant finish on wooden surfaces. In this 5-hour course, you'll learn:

  • How to prepare the shellac

  • How to make the rubber

  • Pore-filling vs not pore-filling

  • Chemical safety

  • Making up waxes

  • Applying a French polish the traditional way

What you'll get

  • A wooden panel, polished by hand

  • A polishing rubber
